Can I do it? Yes I can!

My life to being fit and healthy

Abs

Filed under: Uncategorized — buzzebee at 7:11 pm on Tuesday, November 4, 2008

So I was up early again and at the gym at 5.30am.  I started on the rowing machines.  I felt my abs had had a workout the day prior so that has got to be a good thing as is my problem area.  Hence why i am keen to use the machine again.  I did have to sone out for a bit as I could really feel it.

I then worked on the treadmill and got up to a 11.3 incline so don’t know if that is good but could certainly feel it and the sweat.  I then went to the cycle and selected a heart rate and kept to that.  I worked for 20mins on it as that was on my programme.

I have been feeling bad not doing my programme as feel like I am on  holiday, so feeling guilty.  The good thing is we finally get to meet the personal trainer tomorrow so hopefully I will have a programme designed that can help with my problem areas and keep me on track or moving forward with my Duathlon training.

Will let you know the plan.

Just a few side notes:

Spoke to my Dad last night about our lawn mower which isn’t starting as feels like the blade is stuck.  He believes it is the motor.  It is going to be more economical to buy a new mower. ouch

Dayna wore her hearing aid for 3 hours today which is a major achievement as we were quite disheartened as she just wanted to keep playing with it.

ok so….

I just reread my last post and realised the Title wasn’t really incorporated into the blog.

The title ‘Party time or Shopping time”  referred to the fact I should party for the achievement of reaching my real main goal of 10% loss.  But a party is wasted if I have nothing to wear.

I have to wear a belt to hold my jeans up.  Yesterday was too hot for jeans so put my shorts on and they literally fell down so had to wear my loose 3/4 jeans.  I roasted.  I also have these tops (three to be exact) I love because they hide all the bumps and bulges and can be dressed up and down.  They are smart, but now they look loose and sloppy.

Shopping would be a treat but as a Mum the kids come first.  I have just made sure they have the summer requirements.  Christmas gifts are all catered for and we need a holiday camping.  The new year will roll round and then there is stationary as Isaiah will start school and that means a BIG party for a 5year old.  Oh well maybe by then I will be down another size or two and can wear some clothes I have stored away from my smaller days or will then get a few bits to make do and can miss buying clothes for the between size. lol.  Anyway enough of my rantings.

Party time or should I say shopping

So I weighed in today and I am 88.1kg.  So that is a loss of 1.8kg for the week, makes up for my 100g gain last week.

This means I have just achieved two goals in one.  A goal I had was to loose 10% of my original weight so 9.8kg and the other goal was to loose 10kg, I know these goals are close but hitting that 10kg goal sounds great I have nearly lost 1/3 of the desired amount.  I have now lost 10.3kg wahoo.

I also got up at 5am and went to the gym which was a great workout and I started with the row machine as a wise person told me it was a great warm up machine as works all muscles.  I also did the treadmill and cycle.  When I get there I only saw 2 other people except staff.  I still want to try and fit in Turbo Jam later as that specialises in my abs.

Better go make Martin’s lunch as he leaves in a few minutes.

So this didn’t post so will add to it.  Caught up on a number of my usual morning chores.  Just as I was ready to get the kids out the door the radio station talked about the Fit & Fabulous competition and introduced us a little and then they said they would call one of the members and it was me.  So I had an interview.  I was nervous I could feel the butterflies, but I think it went well.  aarrgh

Let’s see if this works

Ok, so I have done a little investigating and tried to post some pics.  Hopefully this has worked and all the formatting of the post works too.  They are at the bottom.

Anyway at 10.00am this morning the team of Fit & Fab A team, met at the gym.  We went to the treadmills first and learnt a little about them and got going.  I got in my groove and sped things up and started running.  It was so liberating and easy.  I really struggle with the street run.  Better get over that before January ;-) We were on them for about 36mins and then moved to the rowing machines.  After 2mins I would have quit if the team weren’t there to give me private self guilt.  We all did 4mins and then 3 of us carried on so in the end I did 6mins.  It was cool because there is a game on it called ‘fishing’  The aim to eat the little fish and not get eaten by the BIG fish.  It all depends on your rowing style, if you slow up you get caught.  Anyway I got 120 points.

We were all feeling like we could still try more.  We went to the cycles.  As we were all sitting in different spots I used my personal TV and watched Shortland Street from the week gone.  Sad I know.  It was a great session and I am so pumped to do it again.  I will be there at opening time tomorrow 5.30am.  I feel great as enjoyed the effort I put in on the treadmill, I was sweating lots.

Our personal trainer isn’t there till Tuesday so will have to wait to get our personal programmes and eating guide.  Scott the other teams personal trainer was bummed our team was there, he hoped the team he is working with had the same determination lol.  I guess they look good too if someone on their team wins as they planned an awesome programme for them to achieve the win.

When home the family had lunch and then we headed to the park.  We let the kids cycle a bit then they went on the little train that goes round the park.  Isaiah was keen to play at the playground so off we went.  Although sitting here at home now I can tell I was in the sun as my face is burning.

Must get the kids to bed.  Do some baking as have coffee group at my place tomorrow and I haven’t done the cleaning today yet.

I’m here again

Thursday was my rest day so rest I did.  Although ate well and stuck to my points quota even with McDonald’s for tea.  This is what Dayna chose.

Friday I got up and even though had the morning for me I still decided to do my Turbo Jam now rather than wait, It was a good session too.

I am pleased I did do Turbo Jam then as my morning disappeared into oblivion and I still didn’t get everything done.  I was running late to pick up Isaiah and his friend Connor who I was looking after.  The kids played well so I potted and got a few things done but somehow the time still disappeared.  I did see some of Oprah which was all about the the Great Sandwich Challenge or something like that.  All the sandwiches look more like NZ burgers and are full of all sorts even though some considered gourmet.

As we left to go and pick up Dayna I had the boys in the car when Connor’s Dad came by to pick him up.  That made the afternoon a little easier as we had a party to go (LIght Party a positive alternative to Halloween) to and Dayna decided on a different costume so I had a bit of running around to put it together.  While out I thought I better get some more milk and bananas as we go through them in days.  I had left my phone at home so didn’t know if I was picking up Martin from the bus so went anyway just in case.  He wasn’t there so off home we went.

Once home we had costumes to dress into.  Isaiah was Donatello (sp) the Purple Ninja Turtle and Dayna an Angel.  I also had Sausage Rolls to make.  Martin was making dinner while I was organising the kids which we now had 4 as overnight babysitting of a friends 2 girls.  We quickly ate dinner and off we went to meet Connor and his family as we had invited them to the Light Party.

Once at the party we had to take photos of all the costumes as Connor was another Ninja Turtle and his sister was an Angel (photos coming to Facebook soon).  The night was good but very crowded I think everyone was there.  We left earlier than planned.  After a detour we put everyone to bed.  Isaiah was out like a light and the girls were asleep within the hour.

Sunday I got up and decided to go for my bike ride even though Martin and I had decided I would do it in the afternoon.  Something said just go.  I was concerned Martin had 4 kids to tend to but I hoped that at 6.55am there would be a dribble of children waking up.

My ride was good, I haven’t clocked it yet, but would be about the 14.7km it was last week.  I was tired coming back I don’t know if due to a different route, the wind or just general tiredness as didn’t get a good nights sleep.  I was so pleased I did go though especially as the weather packed up.  Wind picked up and the rain came down.

Once home we had breakfast to serve and get ready as I wanted to be out at 9.20am to get to town in time for my 10am meeting for Fit and Fabulous.  I got there right on 10am as we left late due to the girls being picked up a little later than I hoped.  Also it was a slow journey as lots of roadworks are happening and the cones and barriers had fallen over in many places so people were merging to avoid them or stopping to pick them up.

Once at the gym we got put into teams.  I am with Stephanie (morning host), Sarie, Fiona and Joanne.  Joanne lives close so she has offered me a ride when convenient.  We got a tour of the gym and had some forms to sign and given a welcome pack.  In it we got a Gym backpack, Sweat towel, tee shirt, drink bottle, headphones all with Exodus on it (gym name) and of course 2 months gym membership.  Yahoo.  We also had photos taken which we didn’t get to see.  As I am short I am always placed at the front so not happy about that.

Oh my goodness this gym is amazing.  It has a computer you log into and get messages from the personal trainer and ideas of how to progress with your programme.  Every machine you use you log on and the machine adapts to what your programme is set for.  This includes weight machines too.  All treadmills, cycles and other machines have a TV so you can watch or listen to whatever you want hence the headphones in our pack.  The membership includes classes and also sauna etc.  So how cool is that.

Our team are meeting tomorrow to get straight into the competition.  The final decision is made by the gym and is going to be on the biggest percentage of fat loss as muscle weighs more than fat.  There are 7 ladies and 1 man.

I will tell you how it goes tomorrow.

Don’t have time to proof this sorry so hope not too many errors.

Busy, busy, busy

Well tomorrow is my rest day but it will be anything but.

After dropping Isaiah at kindy I want to do some baking for a friend who has lost a family member and drop it up to her.  Isaiah will be going to a friends place for the afternoon so I have a little leeway then I will need to drop Dayna at Kindy and go to J’ville to pick up Martin early from work and come back to get Dayna.  Then we will go to the hospital.  Dayna gets her hearing aid.  We will have to learn a lot and work out how to help Dayna to adjust to this new part of her life.

Friday I have my run and Turbo Jam and taxing kids to do and also more baking.  Then have Isaiah’s friend over to play.  That night we are off to a ‘Light Party’  which is a positive party to Halloween.

Saturday I am supposed to go for a 1 hour cycle and head to town to the gym.  Meet the team for the competition.

It is sounding busy already and this is how the weeks are going to continue up to Christmas.  Boy oh Boy

I will WIN

Filed under: Uncategorized — buzzebee at 4:56 pm on Wednesday, October 29, 2008

I was out shopping today to buy the last of my Christmas presents.  Well I have one to go as don’t know what my Brother in Law wants and it is for him I am buying for (we draw a number out of the hat).  Anyway I had to race home so I could get my 40min run/walk in before the Kindy pick up and a meeting and more family pick ups.

My run/walk is a fizzle I don’t know what has happened as I was going so well with the running but my body or mind or something just can’t cope so I do what I can and power walk in the other parts.  I was walking and realised I was at the end of my time and had to get home so I wouldn’t be late to Kindy.  I decided to cut through Fraser Park and started running across towards the street.  I really enjoyed it as the ground was soft and bouncy and I ran and ran.  Maybe I am just not cut out for street running.  I may run circuits of the park and see if that makes a difference.

I have not really been home at all today.  So when I did get back with family in tow I checked my emails.  There in black and white it said:

Hi there,

You have been selected as one of our contestants for Fit and Fabulous with Exodus!

To kick things off we will all be meeting at Exodus this Saturday at 10am to split everybody into teams (Team Steve and team Steph), have a tour around Exodus and meet the trainers!

Please let me know if you are unable to attend this asap.
Kind regards,

Paige WRIGHT | PROMOTIONS manager | THE bREEZE

P.S: We will also require you to get medical clearance by next week.

I found Martin and I had a look of  shock and bewilderment, I even had tears in my eyes.  He asked what had happened and then asked if they were happy tears.  At this point I started getting excited and squealing with delight.  I have booked in to see the Dr. on Friday morning so I am set and Fiji is in my sights.
Let’s see what 6 weeks with a personal trainer and team to spur me on can do and especially with the added incentive of Fiji and $1000.00 makeover and $1000.00 photo shoot. Yahoo

Give me Strength

Well I am such an idiot, Martin got home early with me having the intention to go for a 40 bike ride.  Well I still had my headache and the winds were still blowing a storm and the sky was dark with the threat of some pretty awesome rain. So like I have the habit of doing, I was trying to decide whether I would go or would I swap the days or make up the session some other time etc.  Then right at crunch time I always end up doing exactly what I am supposed to on my training schedule.  But why do I think about it so much when I know I will go ahead and do it anyway.

Today I needed to be home in time for Home and Away and dinner which I had prepared most of earlier.  Martin just needed to cook the noodles for Spag Bog.

Off I went and decided as I am supposed to include hills I would go back to Naenae as there is a bridge in the shape of a hill and therefore have to go over another to get home so I knew I would at least have 2 under my belt.

The wind kept grabbing me at times and made things tough but to make it worse it always happened right when I needed to beat traffic as of course this was Peak traffic, or it would get real heavy right when I was on the hill incline.

The route I took included one of the other hills I had travelled last Tuesday.  I was heading home ready for the hill I hated last week as it is two hills in one.  Well boy the wind buffered me and was a head wind.  I struggled so much I really did think I was going to have to get off as I felt like I was probably holding up traffic too.  I continued on but as I entered the 2nd part of the 2 in 1 hill I had to stand just to get the momentum.  (I’m sure that was a sight and a half for the motorist behind me).

Well as the saying goes ‘what goes up must come down’.  So on my descent I nearly threw up due to the struggle of the hill and being so out of breath.  Luckily I didn’t though.  I continued on and went on some suburban roads to home.  Boy I was stuffed.  The good thing is this stage in training is Strength and boy did I need some today and use all I had.  It was a 7.91km ride.

We have just finished dinner, or should I say Martin and I have finished dinner.  The kids are grotty and fighting so have not really eaten much at all.

It is now dishes time, bath time for kids, reading time, laundry etc.  So better go to finish the day.

oh Well.

Well yesterday was Labour Day.  I weighed in and gained 100g but I am still in the 80’s.  This did not surprise me as I knew what I had eaten for the week. I then went and did my extra run first thing in the morning. Then we all got ready for the day.  We headed to the shops to find a Christmas Present for my nephew and have now tried 8 shops to no avail, so went with option 2.  After the shops we picked up a friends lawn mower as our blade won’t turn and the lawns needed doing.  We are yet to take our to the fixer shop.

Martin mowed the lawns as time was now limited as we talked to long at our friends and we needed to return the lawn mower and go to a birthday party.  I made lunch and got everyone redressed as they played outside and were now dirty.  Off we went to the party.  I felt old though as I was the oldest parent (Martin is 5weeks younger than I) there and the only people older were the birthday girls grandparents.  The Mum was a teen Mum so naturally her friends are young too.  Isaiah knows Tylah through Kindy and Tylah’s little sister is Dayna’s best friend.

After the party I came home to realise that the little I ate was still lots of points so while everyone ate an English Breakfast for dinner (Sausage, Hash Brown, Baked Beans, Eggs) I had a salad and one sausage.  It was plenty though, so I was happy.  So was Martin as he ate my hash brown and share of Baked Beans not that is shows. lol.

Once the kids were down to bed I got ready and did Turbo Jam.  It was nice until I kicked the cat-Spice across the room.  Martin had opened the door for Spice and she walked to close to me while I was doing a back kick.  She is fine so no need to call SPCA.  We then settled to watch Private Practice.

While watching tv, Martin’s folks called and it sounds like Christmas is not happening so if you want a family of 4 to share Christmas with you let us know as we are without plans.

Anyway I got up this morning hoping to hear about this ‘Fit and Fabulous’ comp only to hear the breakfast hosts are away till next week.  From the email I got confirming availability they plan to start then so I guess I didn’t get picked.  Oh well nothing I can do about it but do it for myself.  I weighed today as well and have lost 600g since yesterday a shame a day late.

Anyway it is time to pick up Dayna and then Martin.  Once home I am to head out on my 40 cycle.  The problem is I have a headache and the wind is howling.  It does not make a great combination.

Winter Night

Today I woke tired as some people were outside at 2.25am having a major fight with all the profanities included.  They had people trying to keep them off each other.  Cars were revving and horns been tooted.  Well I called the cops as it sounded like it was getting worse.  By the time the cops got there they had finally moved it inside.  So the cops left.

It was also raining and cold today and we were still all 4 of us in bed at 7.50am.  I knew I didn’t have time even if I was keen to run in the downpour.  So I left it.

We had soup and bagels for lunch and Martin and I watched a DVD Juno.  It was ok, pleased I didn’t pay to go to the movies to see it though.  I was still so tired I had a lay down and when I finally got out of bed it was time to sort out dinner.  I now knew my run was not happening, I wasn’t feeling as bummed as I usually would at not doing it.  This may be because I decided to go first thing Monday for the run and then do Turbo Jam later in the day to make up for it.

When I was doing the dishes I saw the blue sky and wondered about going then even though 6.35pm.  Well it was time to bath the kids.  So still didn’t go out.  I started the cleaning as well as hadn’t got around to doing the housework.  Martin was vacuuming the house so I dusted/polished etc.

The kids were ready for bed and I still thought it was too nice outside so changed and ended up going out at 7.55pm.  I walked out the door and thought it was freezing, but Martin said I would warm up.  I started running but the cold got to me and I couldn’t breathe through the nose out through the mouth as I was wheezing quite bad.  I stopped and walked, it took about 10minutes to recover from the short run.  This is the longest recovery time I have had in a long time.  I power walked for the rest of the route so 25mins.

It was a real pleasure to be home as it was nice and warm.  It was 9.45pm till I was completely over the wheezing though.  I have mild asthma so expect to wheeze at times.  The problem is I get inhalers but never need to use them so they expire.  I haven’t gone to the Dr. to get a new prescription.  In this case I would have loved to have one as the recovery would have kicked in straight away.

Anyway my running isn’t improving at all so I need to re-evaluate my running training.  I have decided to run 4 times a week.  I will run first thing in the morning on the days I normally do Turbo Jam as well as my normal run days and I will Jam later on the Jaming days.  Turbo Jam is something I can do with the kids so easier to delay that than the run.  Hopefully this will help me prepare as I only have 3months to be prepared to run and cycle and run.

So I will be up with the birds and go for my run.  That is after I weigh in of course.
