Can I do it? Yes I can!

My life to being fit and healthy

Ok so I know you are wondering what the outcome is of the radio contest.  I have to tell you a story first.  Because I thought they may announce it yesterday and I didn’t know if by phone call, email or just names over the radio.  I had the radio on all morning and also had my cellphone with me and on.  I had the kindy drop off to do and then went to do some errands.  So I didn’t miss out I had my MP3 going the whole time with the earphones around my neck so I wasn’t being too rude.  I did not hear anything either way.   Wonder if the teams are now chosen and on Monday morning they do the announcements.  Here’s hoping.

I did get up and do my Turbo Jam session as well.

After shopping and doing some errands went to pick Martin up as he finished early and then we needed to get Isaiah from Kindy.  The poor kids must have been tired as we had the groceries to do and they were driving us insane with their fighting and backchat.  Amazing though as Dayna is toilet trained through the day now ,Yahoo :-)  we don’t need the nappies but yet the grocery budget still dwindled quickly.  Shows the cost of groceries is disgusting, we didn’t buy many treats either just the fruit, veg, meat, bread all the items that cost.  I wanted to buy butter but not at $4.56 for the cheapest.

To relax for the evening NOT.  We watched Top Chef but in the ads put the groceries away and then rather than turning off the TV we watched 2 lame programmes.

I got up this morning as had 4 of us in the bed so no sleep in as cramped and bruised from the hitting and kicking they do in their sleep.  I got up and folded 2 loads of laundry, put a load on, did the dishes from yesterday, sorted kids breakfast and then finally got ready for my 1 hour cycle.  The weather is calm but rain is expected.  I travelled down Cambridge Terrace as thought it would be a bit safer than High Street.  I rode to Central Lower Hutt and back.  To do this I had to go over the Wingate Bridge each way so they were my hills.  It was easy enough at the start but to get over after 45mins cycling nearly killed me, I thought I would have to get off and walk it, I didn’t though.

I still had 15mins to go so rode around suburbia.  I did it but boy my tail bone hurt.  Through the ride I tried to readjust but even releasing the pressure hurt.  I thought I would need to sit on a cushion today.

I checked my route on a map programme and I rode 14.26km.  Wahoo that was exciting.  I love the programme as so detailed and accurate.

Well doing the ride has restored some of my confidence in this journey I just have to regroup on the eating.  My run day is tomorrow so lets see how 1.5kms feels like.

Hmmpff

Filed under: Uncategorized — buzzebee at 12:16 pm on Thursday, October 23, 2008

So I feel blah and hmmpff.

Three days of not eating right and then feeling unmotivated to exercise.  I have exercised though.  And then yesterday with what happened to my leg just put me even further into a hmmpff mood.  I need motivation and plenty of it.

I was going to go out running this morning but it was pouring with rain and I was a bit behind in chores so did those instead.  While doing house keeping activities I just kept getting dizzy spells and nearly fell over a few times while folding the towels.  Don’t know what that was all about.

Anyway I have been out and about today with Dayna, sort of a mother/ daughter morning out.  It was nice.  When we got home I checked emails and noticed I had one from the radio station.

It asked if I was still keen and if i could commit for the 6 weeks, willing to get a Dr. certificate, willing to juggle my life so can meet up as a team at least once a week, willing to go on the radio and give reports which also means having info published about myself eg. weight.  They are announcing the teams tomorrow for a start date of 3 November.  Anyway I said yes and have my fingers crossed.

I think it is just the motivation I need and at the right time.  Please cross your fingers and toes for me too.

Will give you a report tomorrow of the outcome.

Also all advice of finding the right motivation would be handy.  For those that run what do you think about?  I find I run and am thinking about the run and the distance etc which I think is making it harder than it need be.  Thanks in advance.

30mins of pain

Filed under: Uncategorized — buzzebee at 12:20 pm on Wednesday, October 22, 2008

First of can you come over and eat this baking.  I guess it is a compliment to myself that I want to eat the baking but man I have eaten to much of it and have to work hard to make up for it.  Please come for afternoon tea so it is gone.

Today you will experience rain and heavy winds and more rain.  Take a raincoat as you go out.

I dropped the kids off and went shopping for a birthday present as the weather was yuck.  I got home at 10.45am and decided I still had to go as needed to help the baking speed through the system.  I did notice the rain had stopped and the wind would be at my back so would make the 1500m run easier.  I decided to conquer the 1500m before running hills also didn’t want to go up hill in this weather, also this session is a 40min session.  I planned running 1500m and then the rest of the 40mins would be a walk/run.  Off I went still trying to find a zone to make the run easier than thinking about how tough I find running.

I was nearly at the 750m mark when a pain tore up my left calf and made me stop on the spot.  Man it hurt.  I triedd to walk put each step shot pain through my calf.  It felt like I had a piece of string inside my leg that was being pulled everytime I placed my foot down.  I tried stretching it but I couldn’t even get my heel down without the pain being too much.

I hobbled along hoping the muscle would warm up and ease.  It didn’t and I got to the one hill in this course to get me home and it was so hard to get up to the stop bank due to the pain.  I did get up and continued walking homeward.  Funny thing is my body kept trying to run but my head wasn’t so sure.  I tried but the calf protested at every stride.  I made it home and was out for the 40mins.

Once home I stretched some more and have rubbed the muscle but it is tender to even touch it.  Hopefully it will ease and tomorrow I will go out 1st thing and try this 1500m run again even though it is a rest day, I feel the walk was a rest as didn’t get to push myself .  Although walking with the pain was a push.

Strength Training

“Hills, hills, hills.  Time to get over that vertical phobia and find some nice rolling hills.  Try and aim to do 2 hills each workout that take between 2 and 3 mins to climb each”

Well that is what I am to do this next 4 weeks.  It is all about strength.  The only problem which is quite an issue is I live on the flat like real flat.  I don’t know where the hills are without having to do some real steep ones.  I am not ready to do the steep hills yet (maybe 3weeks time).  I had heard that Naenae had some so that is where I went.

Well I was lucky that a friend had Isaiah for the afternoon so I could do my ride as Martin was not to be home till 5pm so a bad time to cycle as dinner time in our house.  Rebecca lives in Naenae so I parked there and took off.  This ride was also an investigation of the area in search of hills.  I found some inclines not quite hills as such, but more than I have ridden thus far.

I rode all over the place and not in any set order.  I found some streets that looked like a hill but I should have read the street sign as they were groves so therefore I turned around in the cul de sac and rode on.  I was impressed I rode for 30mins going up and down inclines and really testing the gears on the bike.

There was one incline I saw in the distance so I will try that next time and hope it is suitable.  If not I will have to find somewhere else that is hilly.

When I went back to collect Isaiah, Rebecca sprayed a new fragrance on me and as nice as it is, it is to strong and has given me a headache and I can’t seem to wash it off.

Well must put the munchkins to bed.

Tomorrow is a 40min run/walk so I may try the big steep hills and see how I fair as hills are part of the run programme too.  In saying that I would still like to try reaching 1.5km so will see what I do tomorrow and let you know.

Tummy pains

Filed under: Uncategorized — buzzebee at 3:19 pm on Tuesday, October 21, 2008

Well I did get to do my Turbo Jam yesterday a little earlier than planned as Dayna wanted to watch the DVD so I did that and then read a little.  Dayna loves the crop tops that the instructor wears and wants me to do the session based on a colour top the instructor has on.  yesterday her colour of choice was orange.  I then do the one i am happy with and she doesn’t protest thank goodness.

When Dayna was at Kindy in the afternoon and I had Isaiah home, he wanted to make Chocolate biscuits which soon became Choc Muffins.  As we were about to put the chocolate in I realised I didn’t have enough.  Unfortunately everything was already mixed together.  So as an alternative we made Donut Muffins and when we got Dayna from Kindy got the chocolate and finished the muffins.  Well while they were cooking we all had a Donut Muffin yummy.

I realised later that I needed to take a plate to Mainly Music today so decided I would make Russian Fudge once the kids were in bed.  The Choc Muffins were cooked and cooling and then it was dinner cooking time.  Fish fingers and veg with cheese sauce.  You should have seen the dishes mounting.  After dinner the kids had a Choc muffin and showered and went to bed.

The muffins were still on the bench waiting to be put away so I had one.  I made the Russian Fudge and licked a beater and had a small taste to check it was creamy enough.  Well that was it.  I had a sore tummy all night like I had a gut ache waiting to explode.

So my lesson is if you have been eating healthy for 8weeks don’t treat yourself to lots of sweet baking in a 4hour time frame. lol

Start of the week

Filed under: Uncategorized — buzzebee at 7:51 am on Monday, October 20, 2008

So today was a problem in a few ways.  We woke up late and don’t know how that even happened.  maybe we were so tired we slept through the alarm (we wake up to the radio not a buzzer).  Anyway I jumped out of bed and went to the loo (TMI).  I felt really sore on the right side at my hip, so weighed myself and then got back into bed and read a chapter of my book hoping the pain would subside.

So my numbers:  I am 89.8kg so lost 1kg this week and I am now in the new number series.  My new mini goal is 88.2kg as that is 10% loss of original weight,  That will be in a couple of weeks so quite exciting.  I think I will then stick to reaching the loss in 5kg goals so 85kg after that and 80kg etc.

Back to my sore hip.  I can’t move to the left so stuck in a right lean.  I decided I would take some pain killers and do the exercise when i get home from the Kindy drop off.  I am sure Dayna will be fine watching.  She doesn’t try the exercises like Isaiah does.  She does say she did exercise though, hope she doesn’t become a couch sports nut.

Anyway must dash and get kids dressed and hair done.

Measurements

Ok I just realised it is the 19th of the month which means time to measure me.  Now it is 10.30pm and therefore a whole day of meals are possible sitting somewhere on me but still wanted to use the tape measure.

Neck a loss of .5cm / Upper Arm a loss of 3.5cm (wish I could notice this)/ chest a loss of .5cm/ waist a loss of 1cm/ hips a loss of 5cm/ upper leg a loss of 0cm / calf a loss of 1cm.

So small losses in most areas but at least I lost except those thighs of mine, cycling is to blame. lol

Well I want to be a Skinny Minnie but may take longer than I wanted ;-)

I forgot to tell you that I won lotto last night.

Well an extra line of Strike.

4 Days in brief

Filed under: Uncategorized — buzzebee at 11:26 am on Sunday, October 19, 2008

Thursday was my rest day and I did just that.  I had a friend visit so we sat and chatted and then after picking up our boys they came back again so more sitting and chatting.  That night Martin and I finished making a few Christmas presents as had the opportunity of free delivery up to the Coromandel.

Friday I got up and did my Turbo Jam.  I am still struggling getting up at 6am and getting straight into any exercise.  I had no kids for the morning so intended reading my book but then realised I had offered to help Kindy with the Library visit.  I did get a couple of chapters read.  So at 10.30am I was at kindy walking a group of 4 kids.  To get there we have to go through a subway tunnel and boy the kids love screaming.  After Kindy Isaiah had his friend over for a play date and we dropped him back after picking up Dayna from day-care.  We then met Martin from the bus and came home changed and went to the park to meet some other friends so the kids could ride their bikes.  That night we stayed home and caught up on programmes we had videoed.

Saturday I was up for my cycle.  It was a 20min ride.  It was a lovely, still day and yet it felt like I still had to work which just seemed crazy on such a lovely day.  I got home to start on the lasagna for dinner as we had Martin’s parents coming over as they were then babysitting while we went to a Fundraiser Quiz Night.  I also made Modern Zucchini Slice (like a quiche kind of) as catching up with friends for lunch.  We went to their house and then went to the park for the kids but the weather turned.  So back to their house for cake.

The Zucchini Slice is full of veges but has eggs x 3, flour, a little bit of bacon and potatoes.  Due to this what would have been thought of as a really healthy meal actually cost 5points for 1 slice.  253g of Lasagna is 6.5points.

I did really well with my eating and portions as both lunch and dinner there were salads and I took a big helpings of that.  With the cake at lunch I ate a slither, it was yummy and would have been easy to have more.

We went to the quiz night and had to take a plate so I took brownie as Martin loves it.  It was a great night there were 10 rounds on lots of different questions on Entertainment, Music, Sports, Bible, History and Geography.  All questions were quite wide in range so no section was a walk in the park.  They had a half time activity that Martin won, yay, but the prize was chocolate and that was my downfall.  I even ate only crackers and cheese for supper not the yummy sweet foods that were there.  So disappointed I spoilt my day of healthy options right at the end.

Today we slept in which was nice as we have had a few late nights again and also Dayna woke through the night last night.  When we got motivated I went for my run.  Unfortunately Dayna wanted to come, so everyone got ready and Martin took them on their bikes while I ran.  I was determined to run 1.5kms which is 400m more than before.

I did so well got to the street that is my 1/2 way point and turned around and came back, my gut was really aching like a tummy bug but I wanted to push through and do this, I was so determined.  I made it to the end of the block I fell short of 2 runs ago and kept going.  I was really pushing myself with determination but my body wasn’t as keen as my head and I got half way through the next block.  Now I don’t know if my body or mind gave in first but I could see the family so I don’t know if that connection allowed me to but I stopped and walked.  I was so disappointed I nearly cried on Martin’s shoulder.  I walked 3 lamp posts and then just started running again.  So I have just run 1400m with the 100m shy being near the end but not quite.  I am really bummed but now I have another small goal to still achieve before reaching for the 3k goal.

Would you have known lamp posts are about 30m apart?

Well I have wound down by typing here, so must hit the showers and do something with the day.  It is threatening to rain so don’t know what will be on the agenda.  Maybe making Donut Muffins as they are a hit in our house.

I am still here I am not lost

Sorry I haven’t posted but I am still around just been busy.

I have done Turbo jam yesterday and my cycle today.

The exciting thing is I weighed myself unofficially today and I weigh 89.8 yahoo I am in the 80’s.

Tomorrow I have a 15min run planned and I intend running 1.5km all the way.  I will run to the corner of the block that gets me to 750m and then home.  I have the determination so will post tomorrow with a real catch up and hopefully my accomplishment.
