Well I said I went for a run and was able to run about 500m non stop.  Well I sent Martin out to check the distance and he said it was just over 700m.  Did you read that 700m non stop running?  Wahoo.  How exciting.  I am feeling confident that I will be fine with a 1500m run in just over 3months.

Rain, rain go away

Yesterday the party went well.  It is amazing how tiring it is though at a pool party.  I didn’t get in the water, just helped the birthday girl’s Mum.  But the warmth due to an indoor heated pool and the chlorine just made me stuffed.  Martin was in the pool with the kids and he said he was tired and the kids acted tired.  We went for a bagel as Martin and I didn’t get lunch and Dayna fell asleep we carried her inside the shop but still she slept.  Because we were the last customers of the day they gave us a dozen bagels.  Quite handy as we have a potluck lunch today.  We will take the bagels, toast them there and we bought some fancy spreads to schmear on.

We were so tired we just did baked beans on toast.  Nothing was on TV last night and we were still tired so went to bed early and read.  Now don’t get a shock but I am reading a book not by Danielle Steel.  She is the only author I have read in 16years or so.  I am reading Rachel’s Holiday by Marion Keyes (thanks Nadia).  I am enjoying it although wished I wasn’t as tired as want to get into it more.

Today was a run day and it was raining and I didn’t even 2nd guess going.  I got dressed and put on my shower proof black (only colour I have) jacket and stretched and took off.  I did have my hood up as raining and didn’t want my headphones to get wet, so I was concerned if people thought I was a robber as running down the street with the black hood up.lol  I would still look uncoordinated and not like someone out for a run, so more of a reason for people to wonder.

Anyway I kept running concentrating on my breathing in through nose out through mouth.  I put myself in a zone and kept running and running (well was good to me) and ran at least 500m, so improving each session.  I then did my 2/2 run walk.  I got home and stretched and was talking and breathing like a normal person again.  So I know I am getting better in all aspects of fitness as my recovery time is next to nothing.  I also can see it possible to run the complete 1500m of stage 1 of the Duathlon.  I am getting excited as starting to see the training take shape to meet the goal.

I was also impressed with myself as this was the first time my training took me outside while raining.  I was definetly a drowned rat by the time I got home.  But know nothing can put me off.

Well I have now completed 6 weeks of training and onto the week where they want ” The Tuesday ride you want to aim to be riding them a lot quicker”.  So lets see how I go with that.

Better shower and go off to this Pot Luck lunch.

Admitting defeat -NOT

Well I got up and thought I would do the ride straight away as I am sure this wind has no intention of dying down anytime soon.  Also with the Pool Party I just don’t know if the day would allow a bike ride later.

Off I went feeling confident as have managed a 40minute ride previously and didn’t think another 10mins would be a problem.  I decided to do my usual route twice as that is 10km and wanted to see how long it would take in relation to race day.  Travelling down the suburban street was fine as usual, as had a back wind.  Turned and had a mini hill to get to the track and could now feel the force of the wind.

I am now on the track and had 1400m of exposed track to ride.  I could feel the muscles in my thighs working hard.  I was pleased when it was over only to know I planned repeating this.  Once again down the street I went with ease and as approaching the turn I decided to go the opposite way as the houses on the main road should shelter me although the terrain changes constantly.  This is not the case houses are just there for people to feel shelter if inside.  Halfway down this road I realised I still had 23mins to ride and I was shattered, really shattered.  Ride on I did however and now 17mins to go, thanks to the radio host saying so (I wear my MP3 with the headband style headphones around my neck).

I am so close to giving up as this wind is my enemy and I did have my cell phone to call home as a back up.  I just didn’t see how I was going to finish this journey.  I kept going hoping for my 2nd wind, but it never came.  I was so close to home but with 10mins to go.  So hit the piddly suburban streets but still I had to carry on going to fill in time.  I had to pass my street yet again to complete the time.  Finally I was allowed to go home.

I rode up the drive in the standing position as no energy to go up the very small incline sitting.  Got off my bike and didn’t know how I would walk to the house.  At this point Martin came out and I hugged him and dry cried.  I was so exhausted.  I can’t believe what a workout that was.  That wind made it more of a workout than I asked for.  I had even prayed that the wind would stop and it would rain instead.  That is how much I was over the wind.

Well I have stretched and now eaten breakfast which is possibly another factor as to why I struggled so much.  Empty tummy.

Well off shopping for a present and then to the pool.  This is an important party as Isaiah wants to marry the girl who’s birthday it is (he will be a toyboy by 5months).  She is very pretty so the babies will be so adorable. lol.

Time is of the essence

Today was another manic day to get out the door.  We dropped Dayna at day-care and headed to the shops.  Martin needed new casual shoes as he has holes in the soles of three pairs.  We got those and headed to the mall to exchange something that was the wrong size.  After we were finished there we had enough time to race downstairs to the kids concert of Shrek.  Isaiah found a spot at the front and then had his cousins join him.  It felt like a long concert but the kids all enjoyed it.  By the end we were all hungry but waited till we got home and had litebread with tomato or marmite and cheese.  I love this lunch.

Martin and I started cleaning the cupboards so they are nice and clean now.  The day just flitted and by 4.50pm I was concerned Turbo Jam just wasn’t happening.  We went to start dinner and realised we were out of buns so Martin and Dayna decided to go to the shop and pick some up.  Isaiah didn’t want to go but then paniced as the car was at the end of the drive.  He raced out the house and went for the ride.

This was perfect I now had the house to myself so thought what better time to do Turbo Jam.  I worked hard and felt exhausted I think from the hip muscle recovery.  Also the 2 hour walk around the zoo yesterday and all the Spring Cleaning we are trying to achieve these holidays.  Anyway I felt the sweat (no Mum I’m not a horse lol).  I knew that was a good sign of a good workout.  I also needed 2 glasses of water in the 20min session.

As I was finishing up the family got home so the timing was perfect.  We had a yummy but easy dinner one I had as a kid.  Burger buns toasted then put luncheon on it and baked beans and then sprinkle with cheese and grill it till the cheese melts.  Well we all like it so something on our menu as a favourite.

While we were watching Top Chef we managed to flood the laundry as had Dayna’s wet undies in the sink.  Boy was it flooded, took forever to mop it and the amount of towels needed was crazy.  The funny thing is we were going to move the washing machine and dryer out to clean behind  during these holidays as knew it would be dirty as not a job we do regularly.  Well this flood just got us doing it now.

Laundry, Kitchen, lounge and Dayna’s room complete.  Our room we have a cupborad to tidy up and also I want to vacum the floor where the headboard is.  Isaiah’s room needs the wardrobe tidied out.  The bathroom just needs its regular clean.  That leaves the BIG job of the garage.  Well we have a week left so should get that done in that time.  I am sure all this cleaning is using calories.

Well tomorrow I have my longest ride yet.  50mins, so that should be good but I know it is to be windy here in Wellington (surprise, surprise).  Isaiah has a pool party to go to.  Found out today, they forgot to give us the invite.  Funny thing is we were going to the pool sometime these holidays and now the day is chosen, tomorrow.

Take care and good sleeping.

Pain and growth

Filed under: Uncategorized — buzzebee at 6:23 pm on Wednesday, October 1, 2008

Well after another restless night due pain.  Although I have to confess Martin just said Dayna woke 6 times and he had to put her back into bed or settle her. I got to sleep through most of that. I woke feeling sore and struggled to manoeuvre out of bed.

We were running late from the start as still adjusting to Daylight Saving.  We got Dayna to day-care 1hour late and headed to the mall.  Needed new lingerie as my other is to loose, also the kids need sandals for summer.  The mall had a little concert on for the kids so after 2 hours at the mall we were ready to pick up the milk and fresh fruit from the supermarket.  Just getting in the car was agonising.  I can’t believe what damage (that’s what it feels like) the Ab Jam has done.

The rest of the day is the usual young family scenarios.  Although I did try to see if I was able to run and just the motion was jarring all the sore spots.  I can’t even put my hands on my hips.  I realised my run/walk was in jeopardy but didn’t want to trade days with tomorrow as we are going to the zoo which has some impressive hills to get to the different animals.  Anyway I opted for a walk to at least keep the routine in play.  Dayna wanted to come along.

I started the walk and realised even this was sore.  I carried on feeling sore every step this was making me exhausted and puffed.  Well I coped with 25mins and wished I was Dayna asleep in the buggy.

Well you know how sore I am so I won’t bore you more with my agonising droning.

The great and exciting thing is Dayna is nearly toilet trained with wees at least.  She has had a few near misses where she starts and then asks to go.  So the nappy saving is going to be great and the excitement of our little girl becoming a BIG girl.  Dayna also has her appointment to get her hearing aid so 30 October she will experience a new world.

Ouch

So I told you about the ab workout I tried yesterday.  Well last night I got very little sleep due to the sore hips.  Must have been from all the side crunchs where I had to lift the leg out to the side to get the hip as close to the ribs.  Every time I moved I was in pain.  Didn’t help that at one stage we had a child in bed who couldn’t sleep in a still fashion and once he was moved back to his bed then another child would arrive.  I got out of bed at 7.30am and had to manoeuvre very carefully to get up.  I am still real sore now.

I was busy and hadn’t eaten breakfast when I had to go to the dentist, as last night my crowned tooth broke away.  I went and they cemented it back in and then slapped me with a big bill, which I am not happy paying as only had the crown for 1year and surely should last longer than that.  I have done some research and think I can get around it or at least reduce it.  Anyway they said don’t eat for 90mins to allow the cement to set.  As good as that is we planned to go to Te Papa as soon as I pulled up, so would miss out on eating my english muffin.

We did go to Te Papa and I was pleased Martin had packed some snacks that we ate.  By then 2.5hours later that dentist app.  We hoped to go on some of the rides but our munchkins are a little short for the allowance so hopefully this time next year they will have had their growth spurt and be the perfect height.  The kids love the interactive sections of the museum so enjoy going 4 times a year (each school holidays).

I was so tired from my bad sleep, and walking around Te papa so I had told Martin I wanted a Nana nap once home, but after clearing out the drawers of clothes not worn in some time (Spring Cleaning) I had to either have a nap of go on my bike ride.  Well me being me made the good decision and went on the ride.

On Saturday I had a 40minute ride and had to venture the suburban streets to fill in the time.  Well today I had a 35min ride planned and I rode the exact same route but in 35mins.  So I am really excited as am getting faster and it is easier to achieve the ride.  You should see the leg muscles developing too.  I show Martin each time as I am impressed. lol

Well had dinner and it is kids bath time, so till tomorrow take care, be safe .

Mistake

So back to Sunday.  The rest of the day was normal.  We got home and I made Rice Risotto for dinner the way i had it as a child.  I knew Isaiah didn’t like it the last time so only served him a small portion.  He saw it and said “I don’t like this it’s yucky”.  We suggested he have a small portion and I told him Nana made it for Mummy when she was little and he asked “Did you Nana make it for your Mum”  I said no and he wanted to know why.  I was impressed he got the concept of the generation order.  He did try it and said he liked it and even asked for more.

I woke on Monday and had to get up straight away as daylight savings have meant the kids are sleeping in and I knew if the got up and started watching tv I would never get my Turbo Jam done.  I did my weigh in first and have lost another 400gms yay.  I decided I was bored of the last session so would try another.  There is one called Ab Jam.  The whole workout is all about the abs 10mins standing and 10mins on the floor.  I hated the floor work which I did after the standing exercises.  I decided I would do 10mins of my old workout instead.  So what a mistake trying the new version, I think I will stick to the tried and true.

We went off to the park for a picnic but as it was so cold our friends didn’t show as some said kids have the flu so to cold to play outside.  After 90mins and having eaten our lunch we went home.  At least we had some fresh air and the kids had a run round.  My brave boy even went on the flying fox by himself for the first time.  I was so proud.

The afternoon flew by so before we knew it, it was time to head to the hospital for Dayna’s appointment.  Martin dropped the gals off and took Isaiah to his aunties.  Dayna had the 30min hearing test which involved games and then it was results time.  Martin had come back in time for this so joined us to hear the results.  She is getting a hearing aid and after showing her 20 or so colours she chose the pink, that is the part people see that is behind the ear.  The audiologist did the ear mould by squirting a putty in her ear.  It takes 4 weeks for us to get it back and find out how to care for it and slowly introduce it to Dayna.

Tea was take aways as got chatting to Aunty after picking up Isaiah.

Sunshine.

Well to let you all know I did OK with my Fish n Chips on Saturday night and stuck to the limit.

Sunday was daylight savings so we woke up at about 7.30am (new time) so needed to move quick to get out in time.  The day was beautiful and we had to make the most of it so after lunch we decided to go to the kids cycle park.  I sent Martin on his way with the kids and I was going to run.

I left first and started running from the driveway and set off determined to still get to the end of the next block and some.  This I did.  I ran for about 450m so am getting a little better each time.  I then ran my 2/2 lamp posts.  The family drove past while I was in the transition of run to walk.  I carried on walking and got to the entrance of the park but realised I still had 10minutes to go.  I walked up to the stop bank/cycle track and ran 100m and walked 100m (this is the track with distance markings on it.  I kept going till I achieved my 25mins.  At this point I joined the family.

The kids had fun playing and cycling.

Well I have so much more to tell you but mast dash as Dayna has her hospital appointment for her test and hearing aid mould.

The breeze and more

Yesterday I was up with the sparrows and doing my Turbo jam.  I think I am ready for something more now as am quite confident with it.  Due to this I tried to put more effort in to try and get better results.

I had another busy day running errands in the morning but I was so impressed we got out the door on time.  Had the bank and laybys to pay and bit to refund and other bits to buy.  I nearly bought a trampoline for the kids when I realised I had misread the advertisements.

I picked up Isaiah and while waiting to hear when Martin would finish work due to last day of term I had a picnic in the car with Isaiah.  We then went to the supermarket and started the fortnightly grocery shopping hoping Martin would meet us.  We finished in good time and headed home to put the frozens away and pick up Dayna.

As the day was so nice we decided we better get the lawns mowed as rain was due on the weekend.  I mowed and Martin did the edges and the drive which was long overdue.  It is good looking out and seeing nice tidy lawns.  After eating dinner it was time for a nice quiet night.

Who knows what Wellington is known for?
Well my training programme wanted me to cycle for 40mins.  I just looked out the window  this morning and went don’t be stupid I won’t get anywhere, or would fall off.  I contemplated swapping days and thinking of alternatives or delaying till this afternoon in hope the wind would calm.  I went “no I gotta do this.  It may be like this on race day.”  So off I went.  Man it was hard and I nearly fell off a few times also the wind was blowing right in my face I struggled to breathe.  But I did it and feel great for accomplishing it.  The distance I had to do though to use up 40mins was amazing.  Exciting too as shows I am getting fitter so having to find ways to lengthen the course.

No sooner had I got home and showered we went out for a pot luck lunch.  It was delayed due to others commitments but we ate some real yummy foods which included Lemon Meringue Pie and a family secret recipe Boysenberry Delight.  This has nearly ruined all the good work I have done for the week. boo hoo hoo.

Well I will have to be cautious with my dinner although we are getting Fish n Chips as have some kids over for the evening while the parents are at the rugby.

Lets see how much control I can muster.  Should be good as still full from lunch.

Trade off

Filed under: Uncategorized — buzzebee at 10:05 am on Thursday, September 25, 2008

Well Wednesday just wasn’t my day.  I am supposed to have 4hours for me to recoup, blob, gain my thoughts, do things for me.  Well this Wednesday was anything but for me.  Just to give you an idea:

8.15 Drop off Isaiah at Kindy

8.50 Specialist Appointment for Dayna at the hospital

???    Drop Dayna at day-care

10.30 Doctor’s appointment to have a form filled out for Dayna

11.15 WINZ appointment once again for Dayna

12.30 Pick up Isaiah from Kindy

3.00 Pick up Dayna from day-care

3.30 Pick up Martin from bus

In  between times I needed to have a prescription filled, pick up some groceries for dinner, make a stew for the slow cooker and go for a run.

Well I got it all done but the run.  After getting Martin we had an errand to run which took longer than we hoped and didn’t get home till 5pm.  After dinner it was getting dark and we needed to bath the munchkins.  I decided to trade my rest days.  So this week Wednesday was my rest day and Thursday I will go for a run.

Well Thursday is busy to as have organised a play date and mother in law wants to visit as well.  I had the option to go for a run-walk with Dayna in the buggy or to get up early and get it over and done with.  So at 6.08am I was out the door.

I walked to the cycle track as it is also a walking track.  That way I could see what distances i can run as there are the markings on the path.  I was doing ok. 200m and then walked 100m and ran 100m so on.  Once I was ready to turn around and continue with this pattern, my calves were hurting like they had ceased up and tight with pain.  I decided after trying another 100m running to walk home but even that was to much.  I had to stop twice to do stretches just to make it bearable.  I really wish Martin could pick me up.  The pain was agonising not enough to cry but close.

I made it home and had the normal routine to follow through with except with 40mins less time.  It was one pressured morning. But we all got out the door even though we were very late due to slow kids.  I told them if I say go we will go and you go out in whatever you are wearing.  I will follow through too just to prove the point.

I think my boobs are shrinking and my waist is as have to wear a belt and other pants fit comfortably.  So all good and proof I am creeping to my target and goals.
